Madelanne spent a decade supporting senior leadership teams to work with power, enabling greater collaboration and shared decision-making across their organisations. What she learned is that the biggest obstacle to changing power in our group cultures lies within ourselves. While it is essential to change our structures and systems of power, if we truly seek to bring to life a more interconnected ethos we must also address the inner attitudes, perceptions, and mind-body states that make power feel how it feels; that make its patterns seem true and obvious and that embed them in our ways of being and doing together.
In this interactive talk, Madelanne explores the practices and approaches we can use to shift power from the inside-out. She draws from her perspectives as a somatic psychotherapist, from interpersonal neurobiology, and from her experience working with groups and leadership teams to reveal a truth that is often hidden in plain sight: that our human neurobiological design gives us an innate understanding of interconnection, which can guide and energise a new paradigm for power if we learn how to listen to it.

About Totnes Consciousness Cafe
The Cafe provides a forum where human consciousness and our relationship to the planet can be openly explored in ways that may be relevant to the urgent crises of our time. Potential contributions range widely from philosophy, science, and the arts to more direct, Eastern and Western techniques for investigating and transforming consciousness. Our experience over a few years has been that this open ethos combined with the above format works well, and might be usefully incorporated into similar cafes, set up for similar purposes in other communities.
